1 you shouldn't have to download any drivers for the vHDD because the LSI Logic drivers are included in Windows Server 2003. In other words you haven't selected the correct SCSI Controller (LSI Logic).
NOTE Although the final image will be around the same size as the actual amount of data on the server, the Proxmox VE server should have enough free space to fit the total physical disk of the server unless you plan to shrink the windows disks. once migrated to Proxmox VE.
NOTE: Depending on your hardware, you may need to boot the .vmdk file using VMware Workstation or Player before moving the file to the Proxmox VE server. This allows windows to install additional drivers for the disk controller. If promoted to convert the disk to Workstation 9.x compatibility, say Yes. You won't know if you need this step until starting the Windows VM in the final step. If you get a blue screen during boot, you should try this step.
Now you can see two files of the ESXi-format virtual disk that have been downloaded in a ZIP archive. The size of the thin provisioned virtual disk on the VMFS datastore is about 2GB now (see the screenshot above) and the size of the same disk downloaded to a workstation machine is about 8GB (see the screenshot below). Unzip the two files from the archive. By default, the files are extracted to the Win-test2.vmdk directory whose name is the same as the archive name without a file extension.
Fortunately, VMware workstation has the broadest support for host and guest operating systems, being capable of running both Windows and Linux operating systems as a host and most desktop and server editions of Windows, Linux, Solaris X86, Netware and FreeBSD as guest operating systems.
I've got ESXi on my server and have couple of Guests on it. I have increased HD size of one the guests but when I boot into that guest - Win Server 2003 - it is not reflected. I know why. I need to boot that guest with gParted to re-size the partition. How do I do that if I connect to my ESXi with VMWare Infrastructure Client? 1e1e36bf2d
